DISHING HOLLYWOOD

I just want to mention one more book. DISHING HOLLYWOOD by Laurie Jacobson is a novelty product that features stories about Hollywood scandals followed by recipes for breakfast, cocktails, appetizers, main courses, desserts, etc. The author works the recipes into the tales with the merest of connections sometimes. For instance, the sad story of Sharon Tate's murder (Have you read HELTER SKELTER? One of the scariest books ever.) is followed by a recipe for her favorite meal at the last place she ever dined--El Coyote. Yes, pretty morbid, but so is the crowd that stole matchbooks from Mezzaluna after Nicole Simpson was murdered. (Mezzaluna eventually shut down--I found that out from the book, too.)

Basically, I read this to get a feel for Hollywood since that's the setting for the Vampire Underground books. And, I confess, I got through the entire thing in one day and will be trying a couple of the recipes (such as Huevos Rancheros and Tomato-Chipotle Salsa, Orange Blossom cocktails, Sinatra's Quick Italian Tomato Sauce, and Macaroon Peaches). Gossip on a hot plate--who can resist?
