Happy Halloween!

I love this holiday! Unfortunately, I'm in my cave, working on a revision as well as writing a story that's due in mid-November. So I'm busy.

But just for some cuteness, I give you Cherie Feather/Sheri Whitefeather's blogspot, where she's posted divine pics of her doggie in costume.

Have fun tonight....

HEROES, 10/27

Selena, I finally saw last week’s episode, and it was the best! I love how we learned something about Sarah (sweet braces), but her flashback led to more questions than ever. What a great character. And tonight’s show was as hilarious as usual. I just have to also note that Captain Awesome was on MAD MEN, and he looks droolingly wonderful in a suit.

That brings us to HEROES, which is kind of like going from thick, rich, delicious ice cream to a Popsicle that’s melting. But Elle returned tonight, so yay!

Bullet points:

* I love how Papa Petrelli talks: “You’re still in shaack.”

* Please, Show, Elle’s return is your chance to redeem the FUBAR that resulted when you tried to integrate David Anders into some coherent action. Elle is definitely the most interesting character going—a little girl lost. A baby rattlesnake who has little idea when to use its venom or how much to use at any given time.

* Weekly Mohinder complaint section: Dude, there’s no need for you of all “people” to get all self-righteous on Papa Petrelli. Barf.

* Great scene with Claire and Elle. HEROES can get its mojo back if they concentrated on more of this—characters interacting and having real conversations.

* Later, Maury.

* I’m having such a hard time buying any Sylar-to-the-rescue scenarios.

* More HRG! Whenever he appears in a typically awesome manner, I’m like, (!!!!!!!!!!!). I forget he’s part of the cast sometimes.

* And just how uninteresting can Nathan get? We’re finding out week by week.

* Oooo, Daphne—clotheslined by the fear guy! Ouch.

* Er…I have to say that Claire tending to shirtless Uncle Peter read pretty high on the squick-o-meter. Or do you all get the feeling that we’re being set up for a “Peter isn’t related to Claire after all” “twist”?

* In the spirit of Elle’s continual “Oh, isn’t your life hard, Claire Bear” bitching tonight, I dedicate this vintage song.

A two week break, you all. Be back with another recap then….

Win a Free Book at my NINC Blog today!

I did a fun Halloween-scary type blog over at the NINC site today. It's a Scare List containing about seven images that flip me out to the point where they actually inspire me to write scarier, too.

Here's the link:

I'm giving away a copy of THE ULTIMATE BITE, so come on over! Also, tomorrow Melissa Jeglinski, new agent at the Knight Agency, will be posting. Good stuff, you guys!

HEROES, 10/20

Pop quiz as to how I feel about tonight's episode.

a) Really stoked that Mohinder and Parkman each got more airtime than HRG.
b) Truly fulfilled to see Peter screw up yet again.
c) Extremely pissed that, of all the characters who clearly won't be resurrected, it had to be Adam who literally bit the dust.

Yes, it's c), although in Sarcastic World, it's also a) and b).

Seriously, you all, I've never seen such awesome actors treated so head-scratchingly crappy by a show. David Anders, Weevil, Kristen Bell.... How can you lure such talent only to squander it? This show is like the most disappointing date ever: they cast someone incredible in the role of Hot Prospect, pump up your excitement and make you dress up and gibber with your gal pals on the phone about how great the night's gonna be. Then your date shows up, smiling with those sparkly whites, exuding promises that you'll have a time you'll never forget and ushering you to his shiny car. Everything's going pretty well when he takes you to a fine restaurant where the food's good--not as excellent as you'd hoped, but you're having a cool time so the food is incidental anyway and you keep telling yourself it's only going to get better. However, at that moment, he leaves the table, saying he'll be right back.
Five minutes pass.
Just as the words "To Be Continued" cross your mind, the waiter comes by to inform you that your date jumped out the john's window. And then, just as you're absorbing that news, the waiter, who's wearing a nametag that says "Tim," gleefully shoves the check way up your nostril and you wonder just how you came to be sitting at that empty table with sudden brain damage and a sad urge to never believe in a Hot Prospect again.

Anyway, on with the non-diatribe portion of the post:

* Did you really expect Ando to be dead? (But, hey, Adam is. I should've known when he didn't appear on the panel at Comic-Con. However, this is non-diatribe tribe, so I continue.)

* Mrs. Bennet rocks. It takes guts to go "out there" when you know you have no prayer of matching up to superhumans.

* Adam, sucked away, taking my hopes for getting invested in at least one character this season right along with him. (But...moving on.)

* Ah, Hiro. Someday you will live up to your powers and not get bonked on the head time and again by the materialization of your ineptitude.

* Some great tension with the sideshow puppet dude. He was interesting. Favorite storyline of the night for me. (Surely you didn't think it'd be Mr. Petrelli....)

* HRG. My hopes transfer to you with the loss of a certain blonde smirking hottie baddie.

* The bro skirmish/wanker-measuring contest was fun. More, I say!

* Is it a terrible thing that I love that Peter lost his powers when he had no real idea how to use them anyway?

So I didn't watch CHUCK yet, but I'm totally excited to see some hints about Sarah's past!

What think you all about tonight's offerings?

In the past, I've gotten emails about the availability of my books in e-form. Finally, I've got a better answer than "Um, I'm not sure"! (At least for my Silhouette and Harlequin books.)

If you click here, you'll find some of my Special Editions and Blazes. :)

HEROES Catchup

Sorry about not being able to do the usual HEROES thing on Monday night, you all. I'll be back next week to do a regular recap, but I figured that I'm so late with this one that posting it now would be the height of irrelevency.

Even so, I'll just chime in that I liked this last episode more than most recent ones, and I think it's because they focused on only a few characters and got back to what I liked about this series in the first place: the personal struggle of "regular" people who discover that they're not so regular after all. Once again, HRG and Claire provided a lot of heart, especially when Claire told her dad that the Vortex guy was a lot like her...except he didn't have HRG there to help out. Aw!

Also, within five seconds of David Anders reappearing, I was already loving him above all others. His line readings are awesome--funny, clever, and so very appealing. He gives Adam that cocky swagger of a less swishy Captain Jack Sparrow, and he is so naughty that I find myself chuckling every time he gets that I'm-off-to-work-over-Hiro gleam in his eyes.

Next we'll see if Ando's dead (Yeah, right.) and what kind of trouble Papa Petrelli is bound to get the planet into....

I'm not sure if I'll be able to post a HEROES entry tonight, so I thought I'd provide a link to Here are seven suggestions for HEROES. I like all of them except number 7. :)

by Deidre Knight

“Powerfully sensual and mind-blowing,”* Deidre Knight’s novels have set the standard for boldly erotic paranormal romance. Now she unleashes an electrifying new series in which seven Spartan warriors, immortal protectors of humankind, battle their passions—a collective weakness that could lead to their downfall.

Eternity has become a prison for Ajax Petrakos. Centuries after he and his Spartan brothers made their bargain for immortality, Ajax struggles to maintain his warrior’s discipline. His only source of strength is his hope that he will soon meet the woman once foretold to him—the other half of his soul, Shay Angel.

Ajax searches for his destined mate on the haunted streets of modern-day Savannah, but he isn’t the first to find her. Shay, the youngest of a powerful demon-hunting clan, can see the monsters that stalk the steamy Southern night—an ability that draws the deadly attention of Ajax’s worst enemy.

As she and Ajax race to solve a chilling prophecy—one that could spell Ajax’s death if they don’t succeed—a fated passion arises, threatening to sweep away everything in its path.

HEROES, 10/6

CHUCK, OMG! What a hot little not-so-good-for-Charles-Bartowski-but-great-for-me surprise at the end….

And then there’s HEROES.

* Mohinder…a rash? That’s what you think you’ve got on your back? Is he being delusional or just… Why even ask anymore? He’s being a dork. As usual.

* Just a funny aside—whenever I see the White Eyeballs of Magic Picture Making on this show, I think of THE DARK KNIGHT when Batman had that sonar thing going on. Was that strangely hot to anybody else out there? (Of course, Batman could've just stood there and I would've been hyperventilating.)

* Wouldn’t it be awesome if Mohinder turned into a snake? The rattles on the soundtrack are kind of a tipper, huh? He’s totally going to be radly reptilian in the future, and this will perhaps add such interest to his storyline.

* Mini Noah?

* Oy—it looks like this Gabriel Petrelli thing is going to be carried through to the future. Matters could change though, right? Please?

* I think, instead of using the requisite amount of Evil Eyeliner from ALIAS, Claire has opted for Evil Dark Hair. You can always see them bad girls a’comin’.

* Dude—that little boy totally got slammed! That took juevos.

* On many other shows, I’d be worried about an atomic explosion, but on HEROES, it’s all reset…reset…reset because of the time travel. It makes it tough to care.

* Is there anything more boring than Tr-icy? At least Mohinder is starting to hiss and peel.

* You all, we really should devise a drinking game based on how many times the guys take their shirts off. What do you say? One shot for every time Peter doffs the cotton, two shots for every time Mohinder does (because, frankly, I need more alcohol to get through his scenes), and for Sylar, you just run to the bathroom and barf.

* Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! Me finally getting some Sarkie!

Thoughts? Or maybe you can just tell us how many drinks it took you to get through the episode….

(Silhouette Nocturne, October 1, 2008)

Five years ago, virginal Lyra Magice had fled powerful dhampir Theron LeNoir's advances. But now an ancient text the dhampir possesses holds the key to solving murders that have plagued Necropolis. When another body is found and evidence points to the Mistress of the city, duty dictates that Lyra work with Theron—a man she regards as haughty, arrogant and immoral—to translate the symbols left at the crime scenes. But with their forced alliance comes darkly sensual dreams that leave her feeling wanton and achy….

Unwilling to reveal his dark past, the dhampir soon discovers that Lyra—a witch of great power—is to be the sacrificial virgin in a demonic scheme to open a portal to hell itself. Salvation will come only if Theron can win Lyra's trust—and her heart.

Canadian author, Vivi Anna likes to burn up the pages with her unique brand of fantasy fiction. Whether it's in the Amazon jungle, an apocalyptic future, or the otherworld city of Necropolis, Vivi always writes fast paced action-adventure with strong independent women that can kick some butt, and dark delicious heroes to kill for.

She writes for Silhouette Nocturne, Kensington Aphrodisia, Avon Red, and epublishers - Ellora’s Cave, Samhain Publishing, Loose Id and Whispers Publishing.

She’s an active member of RWA, serving as President of her chapter in Calgary.

“A police detective in Necropolis, witch Lyra Magice works with Theron LeNoir, half-witch/half-vampire, to foil a demon’s plot to take power within the city. Not to be overshadowed by the supernatural storyline of Veiled Truth (41/2), the relationship between Lyra and Theron is full of chemistry. Vivi Anna’s writing is wonderfully descriptive, and the plot is riveting. This book will definitely hold readers’ attention.”

“Veiled Truth is a captivating, impossible to put down, story filled with mystery, intrigue, and passion that I totally adored.” – Lyonene, Joyfully Reviewed, RECOMMENDED READ

“Another highly enjoyable urban fantasy romance from Vivi Anna! This series is consistently fun and fabulous—in a dark, crime-solving kind of way, of course”. – Kay, Romance Reader at Heart
