HEROES, 11/24

So instead of having a "What would happen if we looked into the future?" episode, we had a "What would happen if the heroes lost their powers?" episode. I only say that because I'm 99.9% sure that after the eclipse is done, everything will reset and we'll be right back where we started: Claire will be okay and Sylar will escape yet again.

Business as usual.

Here's the recap:

* I see HRG and I think, "Please tell me he'll have something to do this episode!"

* "Everything's going to change today." - Papa Petrelli
My hopes... They are raised.
(But soon they are laid to rest, yet again.)

* Maybe I've just been acquainted with the wrong ten-year-olds, but how many kids of that age do you know who hop up and down like a five-year-old when they have to pee? This Hiro is not funny at all.

* So Elle turns Sylar into a baddie again that quickly? Her teasing him into badness smacks of Marty McFly syndrome. Remember in the BACK TO THE FUTURE movies when someone would call him a chicken and he would lose all characterization and do something he'd normally not do?

* Love HRG calling out Claire! There he goes! Man, if this show featured him more, I'd be really on board.

* Mama Petrelli, take Tricy DOWN!

* Lucky Nathan and Peter were flying over a lake (swamp? something?) during that eclipse....

* Dude, even the newly intelligent Peter made the eclipse connection without the benefit of Mohinder's "scientific" studies. I guess even the show is admitting that Suresh is a dimbulb.

* LOL for Parkman trying his powers during the eclipse and failing. That particular bit worked nicely.

* I should be feeling anxious about Claire's injury but...nah. As I mentioned before, things will just reset after the eclipse. (Unless the show is going to surprise the heck out of me. That'd be awesome.)

* Good twist with Daphne!

* And next episode? Just as HRG shoots, the eclipse will end and Sylar won't be hurt.

Let's cross our fingers for Bryan Fuller's return, you all. I'm going to miss the heck out of PUSHING DAISIES, but in this case, lemons can become lemonade....

Big Announcement!

Penguin has contracted me for another series in addition to the Vampire Babylon books!

I haven’t written the novels yet, but the series is tentatively entitled BLOODLANDS, and my pitch (which was announced in Publisher’s Marketplace) said that it’s a paranormal “Shane meets Mad Max.” I’m really excited about this, and even though I don’t have a release date just yet, I’m eager to get started....

HEROES, 11/17/08

I’m finally back on track for viewing this show. But is HEROES back on track? Sometimes I think so, but then this whole New!Improved!Sylar thing happens and I lose all hope. Still, with all the staff shakeups, I wonder what the future holds.

But on to tonight’s play by play….

* So does Ando get those future lightning powers via a Papa Petrelli transfer? It might be kind of fun if Papa shuffled all the powers amongst the characters. But it might make this program fifty times even more confusing and I don’t think we need that.

* Oh, great. Now Hiro gets the opportunity to act even more intellectually stunted.

* As I mentioned before, I’m not on board with the New!Improved!Sylar. He was fairly interesting in season one, but the whole HANNIBAL RISING “He was made into a baddie, not born one” switcharoo erases anything that made him even slightly intriguing in the first place.

* Claire Face Plant = Awesome

* Another reason to nominate Mohinder for Scientist of the Century: he thinks that it’s merely a coincidence that most of the powers came about during the last solar flare. Way to discard a promising lead, Braintrust.

* Those waffles at the bowling alley look amazing. Weird that I'm fixating on those instead of paying attention to anything else.

* Is this Elle/Sylar scene supposed to be…sexy? I’m getting the vibe that they’re being made into an even more warped version of Bonnie and Clyde, but all I can think the entire time is, “Nooooooo.”

* Good to see that Peter is smarter without his powers.

* Cool glimpse inside Parkman’s head with the Mama Petrelli captive thing. That was a good sequence…

*…but Daphne loves Matt? Wha…? Huh…? When…? How…?

Anyway, let’s cross our fingers and wish for the stars. Maybe we’ll get super lucky and Bryan Fuller will return or Grant Morrison will agree to write some episodes….

Interesting Take on Publishing

I'm finishing up a deadline today (Putting a manuscript in the mail! Yes!), so I'm providing a link to a great entry on a blog that's "written by an industry pro." Among other things, it offers a very appealing idea about how to keep the book industry going....

Sorry about this, guys, but you know I missed HEROES last night. I am now experiencing technical difficulties because the program 1) didn't record 2) and I'm someplace where the computer isn't hooked up for sound, so I can't even watch

I don't know how long it'll be before I see HEROES, but I'm pretty sure it won't be before next Monday.

Anyway, I'm coming to the end of my latest book, a Special Edition continuity. I wrote the last chapter today and I'll be polishing tomorrow. Then I'm going over the MS one more time before tucking it in the mail so it arrives on time in the New York office. After that, I'm taking a few days off to read, baby! Then I'll be doing a Special Edition proposal for a new miniseries idea.

I'll see you in a couple of days, and tune in next week for a HEROES recap, yes?

Update: HEROES

Just dropping by to tell you that I won't be able to watch HEROES tonight, but I should have the recap up at some point tomorrow! Happy watching....

by Cheyenne McCray

Jake Macgregor has his hands full. As San Francisco’s Captain of the Paranormal Special Forces unit, he and his team are facing a powerful enemy that threatens to bring down the city. With the weight of the world already resting on his broad shoulders, the last thing Jake has time for is romance. So why—after a long, hard day’s fight against evil—are his nights filled with dreams of Cassia?

Cassia is a D’Anu witch whose birthright ensures power and honor beyond imagination. It also forbids the one thing Cassia wants the most: the love of mortal Jake Macgregor. When she intervenes in a skirmish to save his life, the consequences are inescapable—even though the magic they make together is too luscious, and potent, to resist…

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Cheyenne McCray has a passion for writing urban fantasy, paranormal, and suspense novels. Among other accolades, Chey has won the prestigious Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award for “Best Steamy Romance of the Year.”

Chey penned her first poem in kindergarten, and has been writing ever since she can remember. She always knew one day she would write novels, hoping her readers would get lost in the worlds she created, as she did in her favorites.

Now, she gets to write full time and loves what she does. For St. Martin's Press, she writes the bestselling "Magic" series. She also writes suspense novels, including the upcoming “Lexi Steele” series, starting in February 2009 with The First Sin. In June 2009 Demons Not Included blasts off a new urban fantasy series.

Chey has three sons, three dogs, a messy house, and she will do anything to get out of cleaning, which may be why she writes so much.

No HEROES Tonight, But...

NBC is having some endless election thing on, so there's no HEROES tonight. (Worst of all--there's no CHUCK! Ngggh.)

In case you all haven't seen this Entertainment Weekly article, here it is. Interesting take on how to fix HEROES, and I think most of them are solid (except for when it comes to Sylar).
